Obama Lied About Abortion Record

==============================

December 6, 2006:

Obama not fazed by Jill Stanek's testimony:

"Jill Stanek, a registered delivery-ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after she witnessed aborted babies’ being born alive and left to die, testified twice before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act bills. She also testified before the U.S. Congress in support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Stanek told me her testimony “did not faze” Obama.

In the second hearing, Stanek said, “I brought pictures in and presented them to the committee of very premature babies from my neonatal resuscitation book from the American Pediatric Association, trying to show them unwanted babies were being cast aside. Babies the same age were being treated if they were wanted!”

“And those pictures didn’t faze him [Obama] at all,” she said.

At the end of the hearing, according to the official records of the Illinois State senate, Obama thanked Stanek for being “very clear and forthright,” but said his concern was that Stanek had suggested “doctors really don’t care about children who are being born with a reasonable prospect of life because they are so locked into their pro-abortion views that they would watch an infant that is viable die.” He told her, “That may be your assessment, and I don’t see any evidence of that. What we are doing here is to create one more burden on a woman and I can’t support that.”"

===========================

Were there "already" laws protecting premature infants, as Senator Obama has at various times stated in defending his vote against the born-alive bill?

"The answer is that no law was protecting them. We know this for certain because the Illinois attorney general at the time, Jim Ryan — the man charged with enforcing state laws — wrote a letter on July 17, 2000, expressing his finding that Christ Hospital was breaking no laws in leaving premature babies to die after they survived abortions.

Ryan wrote:

While we are deeply respectful of your serious concerns about the practices and methods of abortions at this hospital, we have concluded that there is no basis for legal action by this office against the Hospital or its employees, agents or staff at this time.

So again: according to the state's chief enforcer of the law, Christ Hospital was doing nothing illegal when they left premature babies to die after they had survived abortions. Note that this is this is the very reason legislators were trying to pass the born-alive bill in the first place."

Erick Erickson links to some audio purportedly of Barack Obama on the floor of the Illinois State Senate in 2002:

Erickson says "I cannot vouch for the authenticity of it, but I trust the friend who sent it to me." According to the State Senate's online transcript database, the quote is real. While the database is password protected to prevent cut-and-paste, here's a screenshot of Obama's substantive statements during the debate:

[...]

It looks like abortion wasn't above Obama's pay grade back in 2002. He had full faith and trust that an abortionist would make an accurate decision as to whether the child he failed to kill was "viable". That's to say nothing of Obama's blithe disregard for the born-alive non-viable fetuses who gasped for air during the few hours they lived after birth."

*** In 2002, Barack Obama Supported Infanticide and I've Got the Transcript of His Words

============================

"So, we are content to rely upon a law that would require an abortionist to save the life of a life that is living because he failed in his attempt to kill for pay.

We are supposed to rely upon the weight of the Hippocratic Oath upon a person who can be sued for malpractice in their failure to kill a baby, to risk further liability for negligence in saving the baby's life he, seconds ago, tried to snuff out?"

=============================

"The Post further presents as fact the Obama position that the Illinois bill he opposed was solely about “pre-viable” babies. The testimony of former nurse Jill Stanek, who witnessed babies surviving botched abortions at Christ Hospital just outside Chicago, discussed babies past 20 weeks, including into the third trimester — thus not “pre-viable.”"

Obama's biggest lie about supporting infanticide

There really are two kinds of people

"There really are two kinds of people: those who see human beings as "maggots," "imbeciles," and "monsters" and those who see human life as precious and sacred. There's no common ground here. And these are the people we're going to put in charge of life and death health care decisions?"

=======================================================================

1) maggots:

"Update: The plot thickens. I've been too easy on Holdren. Michelle Malkin writes this morning that Holdren's self-avowed greatest influence was himself a avowed eugenicist. I hate to ruin your breakfast, but this quote is for real:

"Harrison Brown’s book — the book that inspired Obama science czar John Holdren — also infamously likened the world’s growing population to "a pulsating mass of maggots."

Sickening. But we need to know the enemy."

========================================

2) imbeciles:

"If Ginsburg does see eugenic culling as a compelling state interest, she'd be in fine company on the court. Oliver Wendell Holmes was a passionate believer in such things. In 1915, Holmes wrote in the Illinois Law Review that the "starting point for an ideal for the law" should be the "coordinated human effort ... to build a race."

In 1927, he wrote a letter to his friend, Harold Laski, telling him, "I ... delivered an opinion upholding the constitutionality of a state law for sterilizing imbeciles the other day -- and felt that I was getting near the first principle of real reform." That was the year he wrote the majority opinion in Buck vs. Bell (joined by Louis Brandeis) holding that forcibly sterilizing lower-class women was constitutional. In recent years, openly discussing the notion of eugenic aspects of abortion has become taboo. But as Ginsburg's comments suggest, the taboo hasn't eliminated the idea; it's merely sent it underground."

=========================================

"In 1992, Ron Weddington, co-counsel in the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court case, wrote a letter to President-elect Clinton, imploring him to rush RU-486 -- a.k.a. "the abortion pill" -- to market as quickly as possible.

"[Y]ou can start immediately to eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country," Weddington insisted. All the president had to do was make abortion cheap and easy for the populations we don't want. "It's what we all know is true, but we only whisper it. ... Think of all the poverty, crime and misery ... and then add 30 million unwanted babies to the scenario. We lost a lot of ground during the Reagan-Bush religious orgy. We don't have a lot of time left."

==========================================

3) monsters:

"To be sure, some heterodox liberals speak up. The writer Nicholas von Hoffman has written: “Free, cheap abortion is a policy of social defense. To save ourselves from being murdered in our beds and raped on the streets, we should do everything possible to encourage pregnant women who don’t want the baby and will not take care of it to get rid of the thing before it turns into a monster.”

Abortion Survivor Gianna Jessen

"A powerful and moving testimony from Saline Abortion Survivor Gianna Jessen at the West Coast Walk For Life on Saturday 19th January 2008 in San Francisco, CA"

Leftist Horror Story: Margaret Sanger

Eugenics:
Even before the progressive era when most states instituted eugenics laws, the American Left had agitated for state controls over procreation. John Humphrey Noyes’ Bible Communists lamented that freedom of marital choice “leaves mating to be determined by a general scramble, without attempt at scientific direction” and devised the first eugenic experiment in the U.S.—“stirpiculture”—that produced dozens of children and prevented hundreds more. In Looking Backward, Edward Bellamy dreamed of “race purification” to “preserve and transmit the better types of the race, and let the inferior types drop out.” Other proponents included Margaret Sanger, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, who famously decreed in Buck v. Bell, “Three generations of imbeciles are enough.” State governments ultimately sterilized upwards of 60,000.

concentration camps:
A year before Hitler came to power in Germany, Margaret Sanger called for a vast system of concentration camps for the United States. The Planned Parenthood founder demanded “a stern and rigid policy of segregation or sterilization” for “dysgenic” Americans who “would be taught to work under competent instructors for the period of their entire lives.” The 1932 speech concluded that “fifteen or twenty millions of our population would then be organized into soldiers of defense—defending the unborn against their own disabilities.”

more on concentration camps:
A few years back, I went through Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger's papers at the Library of Congress. I stumbled upon a document that I had not seen referenced in any significant detail in her many biographies. It was a speech from 1932 strangely entitled, "A Plan for World Peace." It was nothing of the sort, but an elaborate scheme to round up more than ten million Americans and place them in concentration camps for the rest of their lives to protect their fellow countrymen from alleged genetic deficiencies. Some, she allowed, would be released once the government could sterilize them. These were the most startling words I have ever read by a major American public figure, yet historians who had researched the same material decided to exclude them from their books.

Margaret Sanger: Intellectual Moron
For months, readers have been asking me to do a profile of the life of Margaret Sanger, in order to expose the truth about an evil woman who has been protected for decades by the likes of Planned Parenthood, radical feminists, and various media elites. If you just log on to www.biography.com after reading this editorial, you will see how far some are willing to go to whitewash her reputation, perhaps merely to preserve the “credibility” of the pro-abortion movement.

Contrary to the wishes of some of my readers, I will not be writing a profile of Sanger’s life now or at any time in the future. That is because my friend Dan Flynn has done it to perfection in his outstanding new book, Intellectual Morons. If the 21-page chapter on Sanger were the only chapter in the book, Flynn’s latest (published by Crown Forum) would be well worth the purchase price. Anyone interested in saving the life of the unborn simply cannot afford to miss Dan’s latest work.

Flynn’s characterization of Sanger as a “world-class liar” who “embraced tenets of Nazism, terrorism-and abortion for any reason at any time” sounds harsh at first glance. Regardless, Flynn doesn’t sound harsh for long, because he provides quote after quote to substantiate his allegations. Sometimes he quotes those whose articles Sanger published in The Woman Rebel (TWR). For example, Flynn quotes a TWR article by Robert Thorpe, opining that “lower forms of life must give place to higher forms,” in the context of Thorpe’s call for the assassination of John D. Rockefeller.

But, mostly, Flynn directly quotes Sanger, who, for example, advised women to avoid pregnancy by consuming quinine (a medicine used to fight malaria) and laxatives “to assist with the menstrual flow.” Apparently, in the twisted mind of Margaret Sanger, a bowel movement a day, keeps the baby away. Unfortunately for some unsuspecting women, Sanger’s advice didn’t flush out in the final analysis.

Of course, laughing at Margaret Sanger becomes impossible when one gets into Sanger’s ideas about uprooting “human weeds” and establishing work camps for the “unfit.” In 1937, Sanger gave a speech on behalf of those “too inarticulate to speak for themselves.” In her speech, she said the following about blocking the procreation of so-called undesirables:

“(It) makes possible the spread of scientific knowledge of the elements of sound breeding. It makes possible the creation of a new race; a new generation brought into this world consciously conceived. It makes possible the breeding out of human weeds-the defective and criminal classes-(and) the breeding in of the clean, strong and fit instruments to carry the torch of human destiny.”

Margaret Sanger’s following two-step plan (which she proposed to the U.S. Congress) to establish a “Parliament of Population” is also well-documented in the pages of Intellectual Morons:

1. To “control the intake and output of morons (apparently excluding Sanger), mental defectives, epileptics.”
2. To “take an inventory of the secondary group such as illiterates, paupers, unemployables, criminals, prostitutes, dope-fiends; classify them in special departments under government medical protection, and segregate them on farms…”

Sanger then went on to summarize her plea to Congress by saying that “fifteen or twenty millions of our population would then be organized into soldiers of defense-defending the unborn against their own disabilities.”

Sanger also had a pretty negative view of Australian, Jewish, and Italian families. She called aboriginal Australians “the lowest known species of the human family, just a step higher than the chimpanzee in brain development.” She said the following of the “Jewish people and Italian families”:

“(They) are filling the insane asylums, (they) are filling the hospitals and filling our feeble-minded institutions, (they) are the ones the tax payers have to pay for the upkeep of, and they are increasing the budget of the State, the enormous expense of the State is increasing because of the multiplication of the unfit in this country and in the State.”

Is it any wonder that Sanger spoke at a KKK rally in 1926? Is it any wonder that she said that “The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it”?

Dan Flynn tells the truth about Margaret Sanger. And he does it with fairness. He admits to at least one case where a quote of Sanger has been taken out of context by her enemies in order to accuse her of racism. But he uses other quotes properly and honestly to show that the accusations are indeed founded. He does not whitewash Sanger, nor does he smear her reputation unfairly because he disagrees with her politics.

After you read the whitewashed account of Sanger’s life on www.biography.com, read the truth in Dan Flynn’s new book. Then call your local Planned Parenthood office and ask the following questions: Are you proud that Margarqet Sanger is your founder? How many black babies do you abort every year? Is an unborn baby a “human weed” or just a sub-human clump of cells? And, finally, how can you look yourself in the mirror every day before you go to work?

a couple of Abortion documentaries

1. Jack Cashill's documentary "Thine Eyes"

This documentary film provides a firsthand view of the spirit of the March for Life and its participants.

To accomplish this goal a team of professionals has been assembled to produce a high definition film of this significant event:

They are Steve Sanborn, Executive Producer – Jack Cashill, Producer – Mike Wunsch, Outpost Pictures, Director – and actress Jennifer O’Neill, Narrator.

The film specifically does four things:

1. Provides accurate and artistic coverage of the 36th annual March for life to be shared with the world via DVD, Christian television networks and on YouTube. A sub-point to be made here is that mainstream media presence and coverage is tracked in this film.

2. Includes a fund raising appeal component on behalf of the prolife movement in general. Viewers must know that the prolife movement raises roughly $50 million annually while our opponents raise billions. This film inspires prolife people to give time, talent and treasure to the prolife cause.

3. Raises awareness about the March for Life and the prolife position, with a specific target – young people – with a message that is strictly based on the “conception to natural death” position.

4. Provides a visual resource to prolife organizations, schools, churches and any person or organization that wishes to make use of this resource.

2. "Lake of Fire" by director Tony Kaye (the director of "American History X", starring Edward Norton)

Tony has spent approximately 18 years making this movie and it shows. The black and white cinematography is wonderful.

What isn't wonderful, is Tony's depiction of Pro-Lifers versus Pro-Choicers. Pro-choicers are shown as calm and reasonable, while Pro-Lifers are either abortion clinic bombers or hicks who morally support them.

Still, what is truly important is opposing actual abortion - as opposed to defending the good name of Pro-Lifers. Therefore, I can wholeheartedly recommend this documentary. For you see, while one side most assuredly must be applauding this documentary for lopsidedly demonizing Pro-Lifers, no documentary available for rental at Hollywood Video has ever shown an actual abortion complete with an abortionist sifting through tiny baby parts (i.e. feet and an eyeball).

I should also mention two more scenes. The first one involves Norma McCorvey who is better known as Roe from Roe vs. Wade. She talks at length about her conversion over to the Pro-Life side.

The second scene shows a woman go through an abortion from the beginning all the way until she breaks down after it's over.

VAAPCON part 1

Pro-Life/VAAPCON/Return of the Janet Reno DOJ?
====================================================

VAAPCON summary:

* "In August 1994, the Attorney General established the Task Force on Violence Against Abortion Providers (often referred to as "VAAPCON"). VAAPCON was charged with determining whether there was a nationwide conspiracy to commit acts of violence against reproductive health care providers."

* "In January 1995, President Clinton directed each of the 93 United States Attorneys to establish a local task force to coordinate law enforcement efforts relating to clinic violence. These working groups have remained in place since that time, and include representatives from state and local law enforcement as well as representatives from the FBI, ATF, and US Marshals Service. They are designed to maximize the level of coordination and communication among law enforcement officials in the field. They are also intended to improve communications between providers and law enforcement to assess and address threats and other security risks more effectively.

* "As VAAPCON was phased out in 1996, the responsibility for coordinating the law enforcement response to clinic violence was transferred to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. Cases were worked according to normal procedures in the Criminal and Special Litigation Sections in cooperation with United States Attorney's offices and investigative agencies. To help ensure effective communication, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights established a Working Group on Abortion Violence with participants from the Criminal and Special Litigation Sections, the FBI, ATF, the USMS and the Executive Office for the United States Attorneys. The Working Group met monthly to facilitate coordination on a national level...."

* "In February of 2006, after a long and expensive legal battle, racketeering charges against Joe Scheidler and other pro-lifers were thrown out by an 8-1 vote of the US Supreme Court."

* "After the FBI failed to find enough evidenceof a conspiracy, they said, some agents became increasingly disgruntled with the Justice Department's efforts to build a case. Playing off the investigation's code name VAAPCON, for Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy, they nicknamed the probe "Crapcon." The federal grand jury in Alexandria was finally disbanded in January 1996, and Cheryl Richardson, who had stubbornly refused to testify, was released from prison."

* "The Clinton-Reno probe resulted in no negative information about any of the targets. [Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America] believes the true purpose was to quiet the pro-life movement."

* "Although some within the FBI objected to the scope of the database ordered by the Justice Department shortly after the passage of the Freedom of Access to Clinics Entrance Act of 1994, or FACE, these objections were overruled by senior Justice Department lawyers."

* "When rumors about Reno’s witch-hunts first surfaced, she flatly denied that such a campaign even existed. But documents were eventually uncovered that proved she was lying through her blood-stained teeth. The project even had an official name. It was called, VAAPCON and I know, first-hand, that it led to at least one pro-life organization having its mail illegally opened and its phones illegally tapped. This happened despite the fact that this organization had no ties to even one single act of violence, had never endorsed violence and was not associated with one person who was accused of committing violence. The reason I know this is because the organization I’m talking about is Life Dynamics. And we were certainly not the only targets. In the ensuing years, I have been told by other pro-life leaders that they too had the same experience."

* "Immediately after taking office, Clinton and his Attorney General, Janet Reno, began paying off their campaign debts to the abortion lobby. While Clinton got legislation passed to sweep the streets clean of peaceful non-violent picketers, Reno literally turned the Attorney General’s office and the FBI into a private police force for the abortion industry. By the way, that analysis did not originate with me; it was given to me by an FBI agent who told me that he was sick and tired of being sent out to investigate “pro-life terrorists” only to find some 70-year-old nun in tennis shoes whose act of “terrorism” was praying the Rosary in front of some godless abortion mill."

* "Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Clinton Justice Department and FBI on July 9, 1999 to uncover documents on a Justice Department/FBI database on pro-life leaders -- which is called VAAPCON. Judicial Watch requested documents related to this database back in March, but the Clinton Administration has yet to produce one single document, even while admitting "voluminous" documents exist.

* "Judicial Watch was anonymously informed of the database's existence. Judicial Watch understands that the database was created, using abortion clinic violence as an excuse, over the objections of some in the FBI, but that the upper levels of the Clinton Justice Department ordered its creation anyway. Specifically, some were concerned that the database violated the FBI's own rules and regulations related to keeping data on American citizens. Judicial Watch has information that the database contains biographical information on well known pro-life leaders.

* "VAAPCON was the name of an 18-month task force"

* January 2000: "Because he believed himself to be a likely target of the Clinton Administration, Dr. Jerry Falwell, Chancellor of Liberty University, and founder of "The Moral Majority," filed a Privacy Act request to determine whether or not The White House and Clinton Justice Department had files on him and his ministries. Typically, both entities stonewalled – effectively confirming that illegal files are being kept on Dr. Falwell and his ministries. To get at the truth, Judicial Watch and Jerry Falwell, Jr., an attorney in Lynchburg, Virginia, and son of Dr. Falwell, filed suit in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia."

* "Then how to explain newly obtained internal Justice Department documents that lay out justification for "intrusive investigative activity" by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the U.S. Postal Inspection and U.S. Marshals services and other federal law-enforcement agencies to compile dossiers on groups as divergent as the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the National Rifle Association and the Women's Coalition for Life?

* from Insight Magazine: "News alert! has obtained hundreds of pages on this secret project called VAAPCON, an acronym for Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy, sometimes just shortened to VAAP. These never-before-seen records detail not just suspected criminal activities by some factions of the antiabortion or pro-life movements, but also the political activities, biographies and lobbying efforts by some of the most well-known - and law-abiding groups - in the country."

* "Larry Klayman, general counsel of Judicial Watch, whose group obtained the documents under a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, asks: "What in the world are Janet Reno, Hillary, Bill and their VAAPCON task force doing using law-enforcement personnel to infiltrate, collect and assemble database information of this type? We were told by one source that some in the FBI objected to the monitoring of these groups on legal and ethical grounds but were overruled by upper levels at Justice."

* "What is curious to even two senior federal law-enforcement officials, one at the FBI and one at the Justice Department, is that the database is under the auspices of the Criminal Division and that virtually all entries are part of what's called an "FI" tag - that is, a "full-investigation" label. "This is wrong and it ought to be exposed for what it is, a political witch-hunt," said a concerned FBI agent.

* "Mixed in with the bishops, for example, is information on violent groups and astounding details on surveillance and monitoring techniques by a variety of federal law-enforcement agencies. This includes tracking mail sent to or received from all manner of organizations in contact with people in the federal database, including the NRA, Nynex Telephone Corp. and even the Blind Work Association in Binghamton, N.Y."

* "The existence of the database was revealed in an exclusive report by Insight June 23 (http://www.insightmag.com) outlining details of this previously rumored but heretofore unconfirmed secret project run by the FBI under the auspices of the Justice Department’s criminal division.

* "Besides political and biographical information on such people and groups, the FBI also appears to have included extensive telephone, credit card, financial and even lobbying records on people and groups. In one case, involving the National Right to Life Committee, or NRLC, an extensive investigative file dates back to 1978 on suspected fraud and other wrongdoing.

* "Though there does not appear to be a direct attack on religious or First Amendment freedoms, the FBI task force has used "intrusive" means to obtain information once normally associated with terrorist groups or other subversives.

* "It wasn’t the inclusion of suspected criminals or the infusion of old files on such activities that we objected to," a senior FBI agent told Insight. "It was the collection of political and personal information on people such as the cardinal that many of us found objectionable. It should not be in the database or passed over to Justice for general reading – this is obviously political in nature and something we work hard to avoid."

* In responding to a request from Rep. Charles Taylor, R-N.C., for information on reports that the feds were targeting pro-lifers, the FBI insisted that it only tracks individuals or organizations known to be or suspected of being involved in criminal activities, according to Insight magazine.

* "As a result of the FBI’s failure to admit that VAAP was tracking innocent members of the pro-life movement, Congressman Taylor told Insight he and other members of Congress are determined to dig deeper into the matter."

* "The Judicial Watch group said it had obtained hundreds of pages from the Justice Department project called VAAPCON, or Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy. They said the documents lay out justification for “intrusive investigative activity” by the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, US Postal Inspectors, and US Marshals."

* "While the FBI’s first search for documents did not uncover any records pertaining to Falwell, later searches did reveal such records. From October 1999 to September 2000, the FBI released documents to Falwell that it had found pertaining to him. The FBI first searched its Central Records System (“CRS”) using its Universal Index and then conducted a more particularized search for documents using computer systems called Rapid Start-VAAPCON and VAAPCON Application.

* "In 1994, the FBI began an investigation into violence against health care providers called VAAPCON (Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy). Rapid Start VAAPCON and VAAPCON Application were internalized computerized sub-systems of the Central Records System. These computer sub-systems were used by the FBI as management tools to assist with the organization of information within the CRS. The court assumes that when Falwell refers to the VAAPCON database in his complaint, he means these computer sub-systems"

* "This investigation was called Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy (VAAPCON) and was first exposed by the watchdog organization, Judicial Watch, from information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and from a source inside the FBI.

* "FBI investigators complained that they were being required to look into pro-life organizations with no known relationship to violence against abortionists or clinics. After several months of monitoring the mail and phone calls of pro-lifers and finding no evidence of a conspiracy, the FBI wanted to drop the investigation. However, orders from the Clinton-Reno Justice Department insisted they continue, and the investigation dragged on for another year. Finally, the investigation was called-off without discovering any conspiracy.

* "One FBI source contacted for the New York Post article confirmed the investigation, pointing out that, "this is a highly political, highly corrupt administration." Officials at the Department of Justice minimized the claims, asserting that "the bottom line is we have very, very strict guidelines on investigations of groups. We do not and cannot investigate a group unless there is a reasonable belief that a crime has been committed." That was a lie. Individuals and groups reported on the VAAPCON database included the late John Cardinal O'Conner (Archbishop of the Diocese of New York), the Reverend Jerry Falwell, the National Council of Catholic Bishops, and Feminists for Life, all of which had explicitly renounced violence and had no history of connections with illegal activity..."

* "That operation, allegedly begun by then-Attorney General Janet Reno in August 1994, was dubbed VAAPCON, assigned the number MC-111 (Major Case 111) and was aimed at investigating "the so-called religious right in America and possible ties to violent acts," the paper said.

* "The Gazette learned that FBI MC-111 (MC stands for “major case”) evolved from VAAPCON – a project Reno started in 1994. At Reno’s instruction, the FBI began gathering intelligence on right-wing religious groups and cults that espoused the same hate rhetoric found at Pastor Butler’s Aryan Nations in Idaho and at Christian Identity enclave Elohim City in Oklahoma. But critics charge that in practice, Reno and the FBI took the project much further – gathering a vast database of intelligence on people active in the anti-abortion movement with absolutely no history of criminality. Reno said she suspected some of these groups were doing more than preaching racial separatism and anti-abortion politics. She told senior FBI agents to look into the possibility that a conspiracy was at work inside the so-called Christian-right movement in America, a conspiracy possibly linked to the surprising growth of the armed militia movement."

* "A few months after the bombing in Oklahoma City, MC-111 was quietly shut down. Officials reported they could find no such “right-wing conspiracy” in America. The FBI’s VAAPCON Task Force investigation and MC-111 remained secret until a Washington, D.C.-based public interest group, Judicial Watch, discovered faint clues of the surveillance operation. Following up on a tip, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA request and received a tiny number of documents related to the covert operation. Although the government refused to release all the records requested, what the agency did release was sufficient to confirm rumors of the Reno’s efforts to infiltrate and monitor the activities of various Christian-based organizations. While the Department of Justice acknowledges today that the VAAPCON Task Force investigation once existed, it continues to withhold some 100,000 documents, representing the fruits of the pervasive project, citing “privacy considerations” as the rationale for the continued secrecy."

* "A 1969 Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch obtained hundreds of pages of Justice Department documents. These revealed that VAAPCON had been invoked to authorize spying on at least 900 groups and individuals. Its targets ranged from the Reverend Jerry Falwell and Feminists for Life to the National Rifle Association and the Christian Coalition."

* "To put VAAPCON in perspective imagine the Bush administration targeting the Sierra Club, Robert Kennedy, Jr. and Al Gore to deal with the issue of the Unabomber or environmentalist violence in general. Then imagine this being done while al Qaeda was actively plotting to destroy America."

* "VAAPCON was also designed to help enforce FACE, the Clintons’ 1994 law called the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. FACE is a peculiarly anti-First Amendment law that denies the right to free speech to certain groups but not others. Union protestors could legally block an abortion clinic access with a picket line while carrying signs that read: “Abortion Workers on Strike for Higher Wages! Local 69, AFL-CIO.” But those same protestors could be arrested and imprisoned if their signs read, “Mothers, think twice before aborting your baby.”

* "Conspiracy statutes have long been used as heavy artillery to ratchet up penalties for offenses. If, for instance, a six-year-old boy steals a piece of chewing gum, he has committed a misdemeanor, but if he conspires with a second boy to steal the stick of gum, the conspiracy could become a felony.

* "But merely to be under surveillance, as the ACLU is fond of saying, casts a chilling shadow of implied guilt or suspicion over its targets. Questioned by Congressman Charles Taylor, R-NC, the FBI told him the VAAPCON “database only contained information on groups known to be or suspected of being involved in criminal activities.” By letting the public know that belonging to a peaceful organization or church opposed to abortion could get you a government dossier, the Clintons apparently were also trying to chill free speech and anti-abortion activism.

* "So if you were close to the late Cardinal O’Connor, or called him to discuss personal or family problems – even personal sins – to him, you may have been wiretapped and recorded by the Clinton’s VAAPCON surveillance. In that sense, the Clinton administration may have literally bugged the confessional.

* "The ACLU has voiced no objection to this, nor has it demanded that VAAPCON tapes and dossiers be destroyed as unconstitutional invasions of religious privacy.

* "The VAAPCON database information included much more than abortion issues and questions of potential protests and violence. Its dossiers also carried a wide array of information about the positions targeted groups and individuals took on such issues as homosexuality, school prayer, the Clinton administration, and other issues having nothing to do with terrorism. These were political dossiers, as Insight documented, that could be used to identify and target ideological opponents of the Clintons."

* "Later in 2000 when [Insight magazine] asked two FBI officials if the information on these peaceful groups if still collected, they both answered yes and that information was being added continually, although one admitted that the information on them probably should not be in there."

* "Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America -- whose group was among those targeted -- explains tactics during that campaign included wiretaps, mail monitoring, and infiltrators. "It was a campaign of investigating and, frankly, intimidating pro-life and religious leaders," says Wright. "The Department of Justice [under Attorney General Janet Reno] investigated groups like [us], the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, Christian Coalition, National Right to Life, and even the [late] Catholic cardinal of New York, John O'Connor."

* "Feminists for Life, a totally peaceful women's rights organization that you've probably heard of, was on the VAAPCOM list for being investigated. Its director said this: “I remember, when I first came on this job in 1994, I heard clicks on my phone all the time. It was a chronic joke – `Oh, there goes the FBI again.' But then, about the time the FBI shut down the VAAPCOM investigation, the mysterious clicking stopped.” Being told that they were not being investigated was not very comforting to them.

* "Tom Ficken, president of Judicial Watch, which is investigating this, said, “These groups have reason to be concerned. Remember, we only have a paltry amount of these documents. Well over 100,000 of them continue to be withheld by this administration. There's a lot of VAAPCOM information still being kept secret, and it may take a Congressional investigation to find out what really happened here.”

c) Pro-lifers Defamed in the Wake of Tiller’s Death

"...Kim Grady, of the National Organization for Women (NOW), has started the defamation of the prolife movement by calling for the Department of Justice to “prosecute as domestic terrorists and violent racketeers the criminal enterprise that has organized and funded criminal acts for decades." But all the leading pro-life groups have already condemned the violent act. We don’t need the Feds to police our organizations!

The language of Grady is troubling. It sounds very much like that which the Clinton Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) under Janet Reno used to harass and prosecute peaceful pro-lifers under RICO statutes originally written to stop organized crime.

In February of 2006, after a long and expensive legal battle, racketeering charges against Joe Scheidler and other pro-lifers were thrown out by an 8-1 vote of the US Supreme Court.

We will be vigilantly watching to see if there will be a politicization of the DOJ under Janet Napolitano. Pro-abortion organizations and politicians may attempt to exploit this terrible event to resurrect their discredited accusations and to pass laws to restrict pro-life activities and or silence pro-life speech..."

d) Justice Department Launches Investigation into Federal Crimes in Connection with the Murder of Dr. George Tiller

"The Department's Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas have launched a federal investigation into federal crimes in connection with the murder of Dr. George Tiller. The federal probe will consist of a thorough review of the evidence and an assessment of any potential violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) or other federal statutes. The federal investigation will be conducted in close coordination with the Office of the Sedgwick County, Kan., District Attorney, and the state's ongoing murder prosecution will have the full support of federal investigators.

The FACE Act was enacted by Congress in 1994 to establish federal criminal penalties and civil remedies for violent, obstructionist or damaging conduct affecting reproductive health care providers and recipients.

"The Department of Justice will work tirelessly to determine the full involvement of any and all actors in this horrible crime, and to ensure that anyone who played a role in the offense is prosecuted to the full extent of federal law," said Loretta King, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. "We will conduct a thorough investigation that will complement and build upon the fine work of the Sedgwick County District Attorney and other state and local law enforcement agencies."

Following the May 31, 2009, murder, the Attorney General directed the U.S. Marshals Service to offer protection to appropriate people and facilities around the country. The U.S. Marshals Service has moved expeditiously to implement the Attorney General’s directive with the assistance of the reproductive health care service providers and organizations throughout the country.

In an effort to coordinate the federal government’s efforts in response to the shooting of Dr. Tiller, the Civil Rights Division recently convened a meeting of the National Task Force on Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers, an interagency law enforcement working group that includes attorneys from the Civil Rights Division and the Criminal Division, and law enforcement officials from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. This task force was established more than a decade ago to commit resources to the reduction of threats and violence against health care providers on a national level."

6. "According to Wright, the problem is that some of the same people responsible for VAAPCON who worked in the Reno Justice Department are now holding key positions in the Eric Holder-led Justice Department."

a) "Among them is Holder himself, who was Reno's deputy attorney general;"

Eric Holder: Attorney General

"...Holder stepped down from the bench in 1993 to accept an appointment for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from then-President Bill Clinton.

...He was a U.S. Attorney until his elevation to Deputy Attorney General in 1997.

In 1997, after the retirement of Jamie Gorelick, Clinton nominated Holder to be the next Deputy Attorney General under Janet Reno. Holder was confirmed several months later in the Senate by a unanimous vote.

...In late 2007, Holder joined then-United States Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign as a senior legal advisor. He served on Obama's vice presidential selection committee.

...On December 1, 2008, Obama announced that Holder would be his nominee for Attorney General. He was formally nominated on January 20, 2009 and approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 28. Following his confirmation by the full Senate on February 2, 2009, he became the first African-American Attorney General of the United States. His installation took place on March 27, 2009 at the Lisner Auditorium of the George Washington University."

b) "and David Ogden, who is now Holder's deputy."

David Ogden, Deputy Attorney General:

Ogden is currently a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr and serves as the Department of Justice Agency Review lead for the Obama-Biden Transition Project. Ogden was nominated by President Clinton to serve as Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division from in 1999 and served in this capacity until 2001. He was awarded the Edmund J. Randolph Award for Outstanding Service in 2001. From 1998 - 1999, he served as Chief of Staff to Attorney General Janet Reno and as Counselor to the Attorney General from 1997-1998. From 1995-1997, Ogden served as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice, and from 1994 -1995 served as Deputy General Counsel, Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Defense. Ogden was a partner at Jenner and Block in Washington, DC from 1988-1994 and worked at the law firm of Ennis Friedman & Bersoff from 1983-1988. He clerked for Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun in the U.S. Supreme Court from 1982-1983 and for Judge Abraham D. Sofaer in the Southern District Court of New York from 1981-1982. He received his B.A. in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 (summa cum laude) and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1981 (magna cum laude). He served on the Harvard Law Review from 1979-81."

c) Dawn Johnsen

"What is Johnsen being nominated for again? Obama has been working overtime to make good on the promise he made to Planned Parenthood during his campaign, saying, “There will always be people, many of good will, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield and Planned Parenthood will not yield.” You got that right.

So if the promotion of abortion at all costs is the end game here, then perhaps Obama should just commission Planned Parenthood to function as the Justice Department. At least it would save the taxpayers some money. Oh wait, Planned Parenthood already get millions of taxpayer dollars. Well then, perhaps attorneys could wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers: “DOJ brought to you by NARAL Pro-Choice America.” It would make much more sense than what Obama is currently doing.

Now, I know many of Dawn Johnsen’s supporters are quick to point out that she already served at the Department of Justice under former President Bill Clinton. And I’m glad they bring that up, because she should probably be asked about VAAPCOM.

What is VAAPCOM, you ask? Well, it was the “Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy” investigation that was discovered by Judicial Watch, a watchdog organization, after a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents revealed that the Justice Department under Janet Reno started an investigation in 1994 — while Johnsen was a deputy assistant attorney general — where they pressured the FBI to investigate pro-life organizations and its supporters.

Apparently they sought to prove there was a national conspiracy of pro-life “extremists” who were attacking abortion clinics. After months of monitoring several organizations, including Concerned Women for America (CWA), the Christian Coalition and the National Right to Life Committee, among others, the FBI failed to come up with anything. And though the FBI wanted to end the investigation, the DOJ pressured them to continue.

Someone should ask Johnsen, and any other candidate involved with the Clinton DOJ at the time, if they have any knowledge of such investigations. Is this the type of “work” we can expect to see again from the DOJ? Looking at resumes like Dawn Johnsen’s, it wouldn’t surprise me.

You don’t hire professional hunters unless you want to catch a prey."

Dawn Johnsen, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel

"Johnsen is currently a Professor of Law at the Indiana University School of Law--Bloomington, where she teaches and writes about issues of constitutional law. Her recent publications on issues of presidential power include Faithfully Executing the Laws: Internal Legal Constraints on Executive Power, 54 UCLA L. Rev. 1559 (2007) and What's a President to Do? Interpreting the Constitution in the Wake of the Bush Administration's Abuses, 88 Boston U. L. Rev. 395 (2008). She serves on the board of directors of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy. She served in the Office of Legal Counsel, U.S. Department of Justice, as the acting assistant attorney general heading that office (1997-98) and as a deputy assistant attorney general (1993-96). In that capacity, she provided constitutional and other legal advice to the attorney general, the President, and the general counsels of the various executive branch agencies. From 1988-93, she was the legal director of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL). She clerked for the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She received a B.A from Yale University in 1983 and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1986."

"Perrelli is currently Managing Partner of Jenner & Block's Washington, DC office. He is Co-Chair of the Firm's Entertainment and New Media Practice and is a member of the Firm's Litigation Department. From 1997-99, Mr. Perrelli served as counsel to Attorney General Janet Reno, supervising a variety of civil matters at the Department of Justice. He subsequently rose to Deputy Assistant Attorney General (1999-2001), supervising the Federal Programs Branch of the Civil Division. In 2005, Perrelli was named one of the nation's 40 most promising lawyers under 40 by The National Law Journal for exhibiting "extraordinary achievements" in his career. He has been recognized as one of the leading media and entertainment lawyers in the United States by Chambers & Partners USA, named as one of 500 "New Stars" by Lawdragon in 2006, and named Best Intellectual Property Lawyer in Washington D.C. by the Washington Business Journal in 2008. Prior to joining Jenner & Block, in 1991-92, Perrelli clerked for the Honorable Royce C. Lamberth of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Perrelli graduated from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, in 1991, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. He received an A.B. in History from Brown University in 1988."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/05/post_201_n_155274.html

"Perrelli is best known as the right-to-kill lawyer who represented Terry Schiavo’s husband pro-bono in his suit to euthanize his wife.”16 Perrelli, who vigorously defended against the government’s intervention in the case, said that he became involved “not to be part of a difficult struggle in a family, but once the government got involved, when the legislative and executive branch got involved to take the decision away from the courts. . . . Both the Florida statute and the federal statute were really attacks on the judiciary.”17 Family Research Council’s Tom McClusky described Perrelli’s nomination to the Justice Department as “detrimental” to the cause of the pro-life movements (a statement for which he was dubbed “worst person in the world” by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann).18 The Washington Times reports that, according to McClusky, “having Perrelli at the department means pro-life causes would have a tougher time winning” debates on end-of-life issues that reach the federal level during the Obama Administration."

"Kagan, the Charles Hamilton Houston Professor of Law, is currently the 11th Dean of Harvard Law School. Kagan first came to Harvard Law School as a visiting professor in 1999 and became Professor of Law in 2001. She has taught administrative law, constitutional law, civil procedure, and seminars on issues involving the separation of powers. She was appointed Dean of the Law School in 2003. From 1995 to 1999, Kagan served in the White House, first as Associate Counsel to the President (1995-96) and then as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council (1997-99). In those positions she played a key role in the executive branch's formulation, advocacy, and implementation of law and policy in areas ranging from education to crime to public health. Kagan launched her scholarly career at the University of Chicago Law School, where she became an assistant professor in 1991 and a tenured professor of law in 1995. VAAPCON part 3

National Task Force on Violence Against Health Care Providers
http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/crim/tfreppub.php

"...In August 1994, the Attorney General established the Task Force on Violence Against Abortion Providers (often referred to as "VAAPCON"). VAAPCON was charged with determining whether there was a nationwide conspiracy to commit acts of violence against reproductive health care providers. While the evidence gathered did not support a definitive conclusion as to the existence of a nationwide conspiracy, VAAPCON played an important role in the early implementation of FACE and also reinforced to law enforcement officials the availability of other federal criminal statutes to address clinic violence. Indeed, VAAPCON's coordinated activity resulted in a great increase in the flow of information concerning risks faced by providers and in the number of criminal and civil cases successfully prosecuted by the Department, and its work generated much information that is relevant to current investigations.

In January 1995, President Clinton directed each of the 93 United States Attorneys to establish a local task force to coordinate law enforcement efforts relating to clinic violence.

As VAAPCON was phased out in 1996, the responsibility for coordinating the law enforcement response to clinic violence was transferred to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.

====================

"While the FBI’s first search for documents did not uncover any records pertaining to Falwell, later searches did reveal such records.

"In 1994, the FBI began an investigation into violence against health care providers called VAAPCON (Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy).
