Obama not fazed by Jill Stanek's testimony:

"Jill Stanek, a registered delivery-ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after she witnessed aborted babies’ being born alive and left to die, testified twice before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act bills. She also testified before the U.S. Congress in support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Stanek told me her testimony “did not faze” Obama.

In the second hearing, Stanek said, “I brought pictures in and presented them to the committee of very premature babies from my neonatal resuscitation book from the American Pediatric Association, trying to show them unwanted babies were being cast aside. Babies the same age were being treated if they were wanted!”

“And those pictures didn’t faze him [Obama] at all,” she said.

At the end of the hearing, according to the official records of the Illinois State senate, Obama thanked Stanek for being “very clear and forthright,” but said his concern was that Stanek had suggested “doctors really don’t care about children who are being born with a reasonable prospect of life because they are so locked into their pro-abortion views that they would watch an infant that is viable die.” He told her, “That may be your assessment, and I don’t see any evidence of that. What we are doing here is to create one more burden on a woman and I can’t support that.”"

"The answer is that no law was protecting them. We know this for certain because the Illinois attorney general at the time, Jim Ryan — the man charged with enforcing state laws — wrote a letter on July 17, 2000, expressing his finding that Christ Hospital was breaking no laws in leaving premature babies to die after they survived abortions.

Ryan wrote:

While we are deeply respectful of your serious concerns about the practices and methods of abortions at this hospital, we have concluded that there is no basis for legal action by this office against the Hospital or its employees, agents or staff at this time.

So again: according to the state's chief enforcer of the law, Christ Hospital was doing nothing illegal when they left premature babies to die after they had survived abortions. Note that this is this is the very reason legislators were trying to pass the born-alive bill in the first place."

So they found a specialist: "Maybe this woman really loves living. I'll put it in." She's lived five years with the pacemaker, and still Obama: "Maybe you're better off to tell your mother to take a pill, take a painkiller." See, we have to have rules. "We have to have rules. Your mother should have died five years ago, lady. She would have been better off taking that painkiller." Who says we have to have his rules? The President of the United States is not a king. He's not an autocrat. He's not a ruler. He doesn't get to set the rules. Obama has taken it upon himself to do so. This woman found a way to get her mother a pacemaker. With Obamacare, you just heard the answer: It wouldn't have happened. I know how this stuff works.

The hospitals are under pressure to free up beds. If they think somebody's terminal, get them out of there. I understand how all this works. But we're not talking about a terminal woman. We're talking about a woman who needed a pacemaker. "I don't think we can make judgments based on people's 'spirit.' That would be a pretty subjective decision to be making." Maybe not if the government's in charge. That's the whole point. What about if families... Do not families have the right to judge the spirit of their fathers and mothers and family members? Leftist Outrages: Banning DDT/Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring"

If there is any one man who defined the word "environmentalist," it is the recently deceased J. Gordon Edwards. Edwards was an author, a park ranger, a legendary mountain climber, and an esteemed entomologist.

In 1962, when Rachel Carson published her breakthrough book on the environment, "Silent Spring," Edwards was delighted. The young scientist eagerly raced through the first several chapters, but as he did, his anticipation eroded into uneasiness: "I noticed many statements that I realized were false." Attracted by Carson's message, Edwards tried to overlook the misstatements or to rationalize them away, but increasingly he could not. "As I neared the middle of the book," he adds, "the feeling grew in my mind that Rachel Carson was really playing loose with the facts."

In 1962, however, Edwards was doing fieldwork in Wyoming. He was scarcely in a position, either through prestige or geography, to challenge Carson's book, one that Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas was hailing as "the most important chronicle of the century for the human race."

Rachel Carson, however, had little interest in that race. There is no mistaking her position on man or his attempts to assert his mastery over nature. "The 'control of nature' is a phrase conceived in arrogance," writes Carson, "born of the Neanderthal age of biology and philosophy, when it was supposed that nature exists for the convenience of man." Today, Carson's geocentric smugness is the stuff of science fairs and after-school specials, but then it had the power to shock the system.

Carson derived much of that power from her Gothic literary flair. The title of the book derives from an opening "fable" in which a "strange blight" has crept over an imagined American town, casting its "evil spell" and spreading a "strange stillness" across the land. Throughout the book, Carson uses words like "toxins," "contaminants," "hazards," "death-dealing materials," and the inevitable "poison" where others might use "chemical" or "insecticide." And she never lets up.

As Edwards and others have argued, millions of people might be alive today – who aren't – if Carson had turned her talents to fiction or identified her work as such. For the one "poison" that truly provoked her literary rage was dichlorodiphenyl-trichloroethane or, as it is more commonly known and reviled, DDT.

A German chemist by the name of Othmar Zeidler had first composed this chemical compound in 1874, but did not suggest a use for it. In Switzerland, in 1939, Dr. Paul Muller was looking for chemicals that might kill insect pests when he came across Zeidler's written directions for preparing DDT. Muller perfected it, applied it, and in 1948 received the Nobel Prize for his work with it.

Had Gordon Edwards been in a position to cast a vote that year on Muller's behalf, he surely would have done so. While on duty in Italy in 1944, he and the other soldiers in his company had been plagued by body lice. This lice was spreading typhus among the troops, a disease that had killed 3 million people in Europe during and after the previous war. To check the developing epidemic, the chemists at Merck & Company in New Jersey produced the first 500 pounds of American-made DDT, rushed it to the airport, and flew it to Italy.

There, Edwards got the order to dust every soldier in his company with the DDT powder. For two weeks straight, he did just that, breathing the fog of white dust as he did so. Much to everyone's relief, the DDT worked, and the epidemic was checked. The surgeon general estimated that the DDT had saved the lives of 5,000 soldiers. After the war, inspired by this experience, Edwards went on to get his Ph.D. in entomology from Ohio State University and eventually headed out to San Jose State University where he taught medical entomology courses for more than 30 years.

Carson's iconic status never slowed Edwards down. In a series of articles and very public presentations, he exposed Carson and others like her who would deceive the public to advance their cause.

When Carson alludes to increased bird deaths during the DDT era, Edwards responds, "Is it possible that Carson was unaware of the great increases in mammals and game birds." Her claim that robins were on the verge of extinction because of DDT and related chemicals he reveals to be transparently untrue. Observers, he points out, spotted 12 times more robins in the DDT era than before. As to her claim that DDT was originally tested as an "agent of death" for man, this he calls "despicable." At the end of the day, beyond all reasonable doubt, Edwards revealed Carson's claim that DDT is "deadly" to be "completely false."

Not afraid to put his mouth where his moxie was, Edwards took to swallowing a tablespoon of DDT on stage before every lecture on the subject. In September 1971, Esquire magazine pictured Edwards doing just that. The accompanying text explained that Edwards had "eaten 200 times the normal human intake of DDT." He did not even consider this gesture risky. In the one year of 1959, for instance, unprotected workmen had applied 60,000 tons of DDT to the inside walls of 100 million houses. Neither the 130,000 workmen or the 535 million people living in the sprayed houses had experienced any adverse effects.

Today, more than 40 years after Carson's death, the struggle over DDT use continues. One Western country after another followed America's lead and outlawed the chemical. In his bold and meticulously documented 2004 novel, "State of Fear," Michael Crichton describes this ban as "arguably the greatest tragedy of the 20th century" and provides the mortality statistics to back up his claim.

Like Crichton, J. Gordon Edwards was not afraid to tackle the naturalist establishment. He cited the 500 million saved lives that the National Academy of Sciences attributed to DDT. He echoed the World Health Organization's affirmation that no substance had ever proved more beneficial to man. And then he dared to question publicly why Rachel Carson and her followers chose to ignore the undeniable human benefits of DDT.

In Carson's case, the answer is apparent on every other page of "Silent Spring." Straightforward as always, Edwards describes the Carson philosophy as a "lack of concern for human lives." She could vividly describe the death of a bird, notes Edwards, but nowhere in the book does she even think to describe the death of a human by an insect-borne disease.

For the record, the research activities of this DDT-eating scientist finally caught up with him. Edwards died of a heart attack while climbing Divide Mountain at Glacier National Park, where he held the unofficial title as the patron saint of climbing. He was 84 years old.

ACORN Founder Wade Rathke Wanted Terrorist Attack on Republican Convention to Succeed

ACORN founder Wade Rathke didn't have a problem with domestic terrorists trying to kill delegates at the Republican Party's national convention in 2008, former radical community organizer Brandon Darby suggests at Andrew Breitbart's new website Big Government.

Darby, who got to see how the ACORN crime syndicate operates up close in New Orleans, writes that after he acknowledged that he helped the FBI foil a plot to attack the RNC convention in Minnesota Rathke denounced him on his blog. Darby writes

What does any of this have to do with ACORN? I wondered the same thing on January 31st of 2009 when I was reading an ACORN blog that is run by Wade Rathke (the man who claims credit for founding ACORN). He devoted an entire page to my work with the FBI. How did he describe the FBI's effort and success in preventing innocent Americans, local police and federal agents from being burned, maimed and/or possibly killed by firebombs? He wrote that it's "one thing to disagree, but it's a whole different thing to rat on folks." That is what ACORN's founder had to say about my role in stopping a bomb plot.

Indeed Rathke did write that. He described Darby as "an FBI-informer who had fingered some folks for mayhem designed for the Republican National Convention in 2008 in the Twin Cities." Added Rathke, "It seemed so, how should I say it, sixties?"

There it is in black and white. ACORN founder Wade Rathke resented Darby working with the authorities to disrupt a left-wing terrorist plot.

Here's another way to look at it: if you oppose ACORN's agenda, you deserve to be murdered.

Eugenics:

Even before the progressive era when most states instituted eugenics laws, the American Left had agitated for state controls over procreation. John Humphrey Noyes’ Bible Communists lamented that freedom of marital choice “leaves mating to be determined by a general scramble, without attempt at scientific direction” and devised the first eugenic experiment in the U.S.—“stirpiculture”—that produced dozens of children and prevented hundreds more. In Looking Backward, Edward Bellamy dreamed of “race purification” to “preserve and transmit the better types of the race, and let the inferior types drop out.” Other proponents included Margaret Sanger, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, who famously decreed in Buck v. Bell, “Three generations of imbeciles are enough.” State governments ultimately sterilized upwards of 60,000.

The Planned Parenthood founder demanded “a stern and rigid policy of segregation or sterilization” for “dysgenic” Americans who “would be taught to work under competent instructors for the period of their entire lives.” The 1932 speech concluded that “fifteen or twenty millions of our population would then be organized into soldiers of defense—defending the unborn against their own disabilities.”

A few years back, I went through Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger's papers at the Library of Congress. I stumbled upon a document that I had not seen referenced in any significant detail in her many biographies. It was a speech from 1932 strangely entitled, "A Plan for World Peace." It was nothing of the sort, but an elaborate scheme to round up more than ten million Americans and place them in concentration camps for the rest of their lives to protect their fellow countrymen from alleged genetic deficiencies. Some, she allowed, would be released once the government could sterilize them. These were the most startling words I have ever read by a major American public figure, yet historians who had researched the same material decided to exclude them from their books.

Margaret Sanger: Intellectual Moron

For months, readers have been asking me to do a profile of the life of Margaret Sanger, in order to expose the truth about an evil woman who has been protected for decades by the likes of Planned Parenthood, radical feminists, and various media elites. If you just log on to www.biography.com after reading this editorial, you will see how far some are willing to go to whitewash her reputation, perhaps merely to preserve the “credibility” of the pro-abortion movement.

Contrary to the wishes of some of my readers, I will not be writing a profile of Sanger’s life now or at any time in the future. That is because my friend Dan Flynn has done it to perfection in his outstanding new book, Intellectual Morons. If the 21-page chapter on Sanger were the only chapter in the book, Flynn’s latest (published by Crown Forum) would be well worth the purchase price. Anyone interested in saving the life of the unborn simply cannot afford to miss Dan’s latest work.

Flynn’s characterization of Sanger as a “world-class liar” who “embraced tenets of Nazism, terrorism-and abortion for any reason at any time” sounds harsh at first glance. Regardless, Flynn doesn’t sound harsh for long, because he provides quote after quote to substantiate his allegations. Sometimes he quotes those whose articles Sanger published in The Woman Rebel (TWR). For example, Flynn quotes a TWR article by Robert Thorpe, opining that “lower forms of life must give place to higher forms,” in the context of Thorpe’s call for the assassination of John D. Rockefeller.

But, mostly, Flynn directly quotes Sanger, who, for example, advised women to avoid pregnancy by consuming quinine (a medicine used to fight malaria) and laxatives “to assist with the menstrual flow.” Apparently, in the twisted mind of Margaret Sanger, a bowel movement a day, keeps the baby away. Unfortunately for some unsuspecting women, Sanger’s advice didn’t flush out in the final analysis.

Of course, laughing at Margaret Sanger becomes impossible when one gets into Sanger’s ideas about uprooting “human weeds” and establishing work camps for the “unfit.” In 1937, Sanger gave a speech on behalf of those “too inarticulate to speak for themselves.” In her speech, she said the following about blocking the procreation of so-called undesirables:

“(It) makes possible the spread of scientific knowledge of the elements of sound breeding. It makes possible the creation of a new race; a new generation brought into this world consciously conceived. It makes possible the breeding out of human weeds-the defective and criminal classes-(and) the breeding in of the clean, strong and fit instruments to carry the torch of human destiny.”

Margaret Sanger’s following two-step plan (which she proposed to the U.S. Congress) to establish a “Parliament of Population” is also well-documented in the pages of Intellectual Morons:

1. To “control the intake and output of morons (apparently excluding Sanger), mental defectives, epileptics.”
2. To “take an inventory of the secondary group such as illiterates, paupers, unemployables, criminals, prostitutes, dope-fiends; classify them in special departments under government medical protection, and segregate them on farms…”

Sanger then went on to summarize her plea to Congress by saying that “fifteen or twenty millions of our population would then be organized into soldiers of defense-defending the unborn against their own disabilities.”

Sanger also had a pretty negative view of Australian, Jewish, and Italian families. She called aboriginal Australians “the lowest known species of the human family, just a step higher than the chimpanzee in brain development.” She said the following of the “Jewish people and Italian families”:

“(They) are filling the insane asylums, (they) are filling the hospitals and filling our feeble-minded institutions, (they) are the ones the tax payers have to pay for the upkeep of, and they are increasing the budget of the State, the enormous expense of the State is increasing because of the multiplication of the unfit in this country and in the State.”

Is it any wonder that Sanger spoke at a KKK rally in 1926? Is it any wonder that she said that “The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it”?

Dan Flynn tells the truth about Margaret Sanger. And he does it with fairness. He admits to at least one case where a quote of Sanger has been taken out of context by her enemies in order to accuse her of racism. But he uses other quotes properly and honestly to show that the accusations are indeed founded. He does not whitewash Sanger, nor does he smear her reputation unfairly because he disagrees with her politics.

After you read the whitewashed account of Sanger’s life on www.biography.com, read the truth in Dan Flynn’s new book. Then call your local Planned Parenthood office and ask the following questions: Are you proud that Margarqet Sanger is your founder? How many black babies do you abort every year? Is an unborn baby a “human weed” or just a sub-human clump of cells? And, finally, how can you look yourself in the mirror every day before you go to work?

Stewart has described the 9/11 terrorist attacks as an "armed struggle." This is a reminder of exactly what she did to aid and abet jihad via Middle East Quarterly:

"On February 10, 2005, another New York court found Stewart, now 66, as well as the sheikh's court-appointed translator, Mohammad Yousry, 48, and his former paralegal, Ahmed Sattar, 46, guilty of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government for their part in enabling communications between the imprisoned sheikh and his network.
Stewart and her coconspirators flouted their agreement with the Justice Department and helped the sheikh circumvent the communications ban. According to government recordings of their prison visits, Yousry, who also served as an adjunct lecturer in Middle East studies at York College of the City University of New York, conveyed messages to and from the sheikh while Stewart created what the prosecution called "covering noises." On some surveillance videos, Stewart could be seen shaking a water jar or tapping on the table while Yousry and the sheikh exchanged communications that were then later disseminated to the sheikh's followers via the former paralegal. The prosecutor argued, citing a letter written by the U.S. attorney's office to Stewart after she delivered the message to Reuters, that it was not in the sheikh's legal rights "to pass messages which, simply put, can get people killed and buildings blown up." They argued that the case was equivalent to a "jail break," in which the defendants extracted Abdel Rahman from prison, "not literally, of course, [but] figuratively, in order to make him available to other terrorists."

One of the most incendiary communications was a message Stewart herself gave to the Reuters news service in June 2000 in which the sheikh announced his withdrawal of support for a cease-fire between the Egyptian Islamic Group and the Egyptian government. The truce had been in place since 1997, just after his followers in Egypt had opened fire on tourists at the Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor, killing 58 foreigners and 4 Egyptians. Subsequently, high-casualty Islamist terrorism resumed in Egypt on October 7, 2004, with a series of bombings that killed 34 in and around the Egyptian Sinai resort of Taba. On July 23, 2005, three bombs exploded in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing at least 64.

Government investigators searching Stewart's law offices found a draft of the sheikh's fatwa that bin Laden later said inspired him. In it, Abdel Rahman enjoined his fellow Muslims everywhere to kill Americans, even children, "to treat them with brutality," and to "drown their ships, shoot down their airplanes, kill them on earth, in the sea or in the sky, kill them everywhere you find them" in order to obtain his release from U.S. prison.

The jury also found Sattar guilty of additional charges of conspiracy to kidnap and murder. In this case, he ghostwrote and issued a fatwa under the sheikh's name in which he urged Muslims to kill Jews and their supporters. He also recruited a terrorist, at the time a fugitive in Egypt, in order to carry out the fatwa. Sattar, who has been held without bail since his arrest, faces life imprisonment."

When I think of the terrorist atrocity that happened eight years ago, I feel deeply for people like Vic and Christina Colaio.

These two fine Americans lost their sons Stephen and Mark, who both worked in the World Trade Center. Along with their daughter, Jean, the elderly couple suffers their loss on a daily basis. Time does not heal those kinds of wounds.

That is why I am so enraged by the John Adams Project, a group of subversive Americans affiliated with the ACLU who are sneaking around taking pictures of CIA agents who may have interrogated captured al-Qaida guys in the wake of the Sept. 11 attack.

This insidious outfit believes the CIA tortured casually and the U.S.A. is a “human rights violator.”

After taking the surreptitious photos, the Adams Project then passes them on to lawyers representing incarcerated terrorists, hoping that an accused man will, in turn, accuse a CIA agent of torturing him.

This nasty business is now being investigated by the Justice Department, but the Obama administration has kept very quiet about it and, strangely, so have the media.

Very few newspapers have reported on the John Adams Project, and there is something quite disturbing about that.

Remember Valerie Plame? She was the CIA operative publicly exposed by columnist Robert Novak in an Iraq weapons-of-mass-destruction controversy.

After that happened, the left-wing media went wild with indignation. How could anyone name a CIA person, thereby putting him or her in danger?

The New York Times was on fire over the story. But when faced with the facts about the John Adams Project, the Times buried the story on page A-20.

By exposing CIA agents to accused terrorists and their lawyers, the John Adams Project is obviously putting lives in jeopardy.

This is a thousand times worse than the Plame affair, which saw top Dick Cheney aide Scooter Libby convicted of a felony while the press largely celebrated.

But where is the coverage of the Adams story?

Where is President Obama on the issue?

Why are these people being allowed to terrorize the Central Intelligence Agency?

Relevant questions. We await the answers.

Leftist Outrage: Sandy Burglar and his pants

Sandy Burglar's Big Secret

Ronald Cass, author of The Rule of Law in America, is right to wonder just how big a secret Bill Clinton's National Security Advisor Sandy Burger is hiding, in light of his recently agreeing to give up his law license rather than let us know just what was in the terror-related classified documents he stole from the National Archives and destroyed.

Burglar had already gotten off with a plea deal that allowed him to avoid jail and to keep his law license. But now he's giving up the precious license, to stop an investigation into the contents of the missing documents.

The stolen information may indicate that Clinton could have done a whole lot more to prevent 9/11. This is obviously a sore spot, considering how Slick Willie went ballistic when Chris Wallace touched on this subject in a Fox News interview.

Very probably, information is being hidden that would be useful to Bush in his efforts to combat al-Qaeda. There also might be something that would explain why both Clintons were in favor of going to war against Saddam.

Whatever Sandy Burglar's sitting on, it's big. My guess is that Shrillary doesn't want us to know about it either, lest we be reminded how appallingly irresponsible it would be to allow the Clinton gang back into the White House.

The Sandy Burglar story revisited

More amazing details of former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger's theft and deliberate concealment of classified documents emerged last week – just before the Christmas holiday, at a time few Americans were watching the news.

In a report by National Archives Inspector General Paul Brachfeld, we learn, more than three years after the crime against the American people and the laws of the land, that Berger hid some of the documents under a construction trailer.

We also learn that at first no law enforcement agencies were even notified of suspicions about the crime.

We learn that his first "cover story" was that he might have inadvertently thrown the papers
in the trash.

We learn he admitted retrieving the documents he stashed under the construction trailer and brought them to his office.

We learn the reason he was not confronted earlier – and that law enforcement authorities were not notified – was because of Berger's high-level position in the Clinton White House.

And let's remember what Sandy Burglar was doing rummaging through classified materials in the National Archives. He was on assignment for former President Clinton, to help prepare him for upcoming testimony before the 9/11 commission as well as to prepare himself for impending testimony before the Senate and House intelligence committees.

Specifically, he was reviewing National Security Council documents about Osama bin Laden, al-Qaida and Sudan. Now, as you might recall, if you have a very good memory, the Clinton administration was offered bin Laden's head on a platter by the Sudanese government – an offer spurned by the White House.

As you also might recall, the 9/11 commission was investigating the mistakes that led to the biggest attack on American soil in history...

1. Jeff Jones

NY's Tax-Funded Ex-Terrorist

VAN Jones resigned as White House green-jobs czar after the public got a look at his history of radical activism, including his time building the so-called Apollo Alliance -- a coalition of left-wing interest groups unified around the green-jobs concept. But another, even more radical Jones (not related) is leading Apollo's New York state activities.

Jeff Jones was a domestic terrorist in the late '60s and a fugitive from justice throughout the '70s -- yet now he's a leader of an influential, taxpayer-funded group.

Jones was a fugitive from justice for 11 years. His own account at his Web site says: "As a leader of the Weather Underground, Jeff evaded an intense FBI manhunt for more than a decade. In 1981, they finally got him. Twenty special agents battered down the door of the Bronx apartment where he was living with his wife and four-year-old son."

With Mark Rudd and Bill Ayers, Jones in 1969 co-founded the radical Weatherman, which orchestrated the violent "Days of Rage" riots in Chicago, and later undertook an anti-government bombing campaign. Three of its members died when a bomb they were constructing to attack Fort Dix accidentally detonated in Greenwich Village.

And Jones is still proud of his terrorist activities -- saying as recently as 2004: "To this day, we still, lots of us, including me, still think it was the right thing to try to do."

Now, Jones is back to revolutionary organizing -- but with taxpayers footing the bill. He's the director of the Apollo Alliance's New York affiliate and a consultant to the national group.

Apollo unifies the three most powerful elements of the political left -- environmental groups, labor unions and street organizers like ACORN -- and points them toward a common goal that enriches all of them under the banner of "green jobs." (Van Jones was an Apollo board member until he joined the White House staff.)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently credited Apollo with helping write the stimulus bill and getting it passed. Yet the stimulus' "green jobs" provisions funnel federal tax dollars to unions, green groups and community organizers -- that is, the organizations that make up Apollo.

Green jobs serve a political purpose, but not an economic one. The evidence from Spain and elsewhere is ample -- each green job created destroys more than two other jobs elsewhere in the economy.

Jeff Jones counts among his consulting clients (along with Apollo) a half-dozen state and local environmental groups and the Workforce Development Institute (WDI), a union-controlled organization ("developed in partnership with the NYS AFL-CIO," it says) that works with state and local government and universities.

WDI's mission is to support union influence on state and local governments. It gets state tax dollars to do it -- to the tune of $4.8 million in this year's Education, Labor and Family Assistance budget bill.

WDI is so tightly integrated with Apollo that it features a full page of Apollo information on its Web site (wdiny.org), which appears to be the primary Web presence of Apollo's New York branch. WDI encourages its members and program participants to attend Apollo Alliance events.

As a consultant to WDI, Jones is helping write the grant proposals for federal stimulus funds -- funds authorized in the bill Apollo helped write, presumably ensuring that taxpayer dollars end up in the hands of groups that share Apollo's political agenda.

Anyone should be entitled to spend his or her own money on political organizing, but Apollo and WDI are spending taxpayer dollars to organize a coalition of extreme environmentalists, labor unions and social-justice street organizers.

That's bad enough in itself, but to have the effort spearheaded by an unrepentant domestic terrorist is a true outrage.

2. Mark Rudd

UNDERGROUND: MY LIFE WITH SDS AND THE WEATHERMEN

Older New Yorkers will remember Mark Rudd as the enfant terrible of the 1968 Columbia University strike, when radical members of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) occupied administration buildings and President Grayson Kirk's office. Their stated rationale: To protest the university's plans to build a new gym in Harlem, thereby expropriating land and homes belonging to poor African-Americans and to end any research connected to the war effort. But their real goal, Rudd writes, was "not just ending the war [in Vietnam] but ending the capitalist system that had caused the war."

From the start, then, Rudd defined himself as a revolutionary, a leader of the SDS "Action/Faction," that was devoted to smashing the state, to overturning the government and even to defeating liberal enemies like "peace candidates" Robert F. Kennedy and Eugene McCarthy. Columbia's then-Vice President David Truman called Rudd "a combination of a revolutionary and an adolescent having a temper tantrum." Reading Rudd's new book "Underground" it's hard to conclude otherwise.

After the Columbia strike, when seeking to up the ante, Rudd and his comrades transformed SDS into the group first known as The Weathermen, and later, as The Weather Underground. Unlike his comrade Bill Ayers, who is both unrepentant and who distorts and lies about the Weathermen's goals and activities, Rudd is reflective and truthful. He does not depict himself, as does Ayers, as someone who was part of the broad peace movement.

Back then, Rudd, Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn favored "the necessity for violence in order to end the war and also to make revolution." They were fighting "a revolutionary war from within the United States," Rudd explains. When successful, the Weathermen would then build a new revolutionary army staffed by young defectors from the US armed forces.

To achieve these ends they adopted "armed struggle," as the only way to achieve their revolutionary goals. Instead of a loose organization of campus chapters, they now built a "highly centralized, clandestine revolutionary party," modeled, Rudd admits, on the strategy and organization of the Communists. A showdown came at the June 1969 SDS national convention in Chicago. Rudd left the convention as the elected leader of the SDS, with Ayers and Dohrn in subordinate positions.

Their goal was to build "the American arm of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam." Rudd led events like the Chicago "Days of Rage," in which hard-line Weather cadre fought the police. Rudd would recruit others saying, "The pigs have to be wiped out. We're going to fight violence with violence and wipe out Chicago." The guy had lofty ambitions. They injured 26 policemen and succeeded in paralyzing one Chicago official, which they then celebrated in song.

At some level, Rudd knew that all he was doing was a terrible mistake, but, he writes, "I felt like a member of the crew on a speeding train, dimly aware of disaster ahead but unable to put on the bakes." Rudd even acknowledges he was part of a "classic cult, true believers surrounded by a hostile world that we rejected .ñ.ñ. We had a holy faith, revolution, which could not be shaken."

Their attempts at guerrilla warfare ended with the 1970 New York City town house bombing, which Rudd and Ayers and Dohrn all approved. Rudd is honest about its intent, emphasizing how the bomb they built was meant to kill hundreds of GIs and their dates at a Fort Dix dance. It was, he now knows, a "fantasy of revolutionary urban-guerrilla warfare," done on their own, without police agents provoking them. He and his associates, he ruefully reflects, killed a broad and powerful movement opposed to the Vietnam War, all in the name of a fanciful goal.

Being truthful about his own madness and the crazy path he and his comrades took, Rudd does not go along with what he calls the convenient cleansing of their history carried out by Ayers, who after the town house bomb exploded, still favored "the overall strategy of clandestine armed struggle."

Rudd went into exile, slowly became disillusioned, turned himself in and surfaced publicly in 1977. He ends the book with the 2008 SDS reunion at Columbia University. Seeing his old comrades he finds himself still a man of the Left. Even while facing up to the delusions of his revolutionary youth, he still believes the United States is evil, and that he and his comrades spent years working "to continue the idealism inherent in our rebellion." The facts he presents speak otherwise. His "idealism" led to catastrophe. He and his "comrades" ruined much of their lives, including their marriages.

Despite Rudd's failure to re-evaluate his left-wing politics, he shatters the romantic myth of the Weather Underground, exposing them as a dangerous group committed to terrorism.

The ((( Obama + Ayers + Khalidi ))) nexus...

1. The Obama/Ayers/Khalidi Connection

I just caught up with an interview by one of my favorite guys, Hugh Hewitt, of another of my favorite guys, Stanley Kurtz. (It's on Hugh's Townhall blog, which always has plenty of required reading.)

Stanley, of course, has done singularly vital investigative work on Obama's background — you should check out his NRO archive, here, as well as important articles he's recently written in the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal (see. e.g., here, here and here). But Hugh's interview is a real primer for those who haven't delved into it much. It also spotlights an important point that has largely been missed. That is, while there has been focus on the Obama/Ayers tie and the Obama/Khalidi tie, no real attention has been paid to the Ayers/Khalidi tie — which is very strong and tightens the circle significantly.

Specifically, Hugh asked about the strands of the Ayers/Obama connection. After Stanley recounted them in detail, he added this:

SK: Now if you lived just a few blocks away from someone, and you’ve been on a foundation together, and at least in the first year, you were on the board together, and then you’re on a panel together, when you run into each other, what are you going to be talking about? Here’s something I also haven’t mentioned. Rashid Khalidi and Bill Ayers were practically best friends. People don’t know this, and I’m actually saying this for the first time. I haven’t written about this. They were best friends, and we know that Obama had interactions with Khalidi, that Khalidi had held the coffee that kicked off his Congressional campaign, I believe. And Ayers and Khalidi were extremely close if you look at the acknowledgements in their books.

HH: Tell us about Khalidi. Tell us who he is and his role in Obama’s life.

SK: Rashid Khalidi is really, in a sense, the American successor of Edward Said, a very strong advocate for the Palestinians, extremely radical in his views and his opposition to American foreign policy. He was a friend and colleague of Obama. Apparently they used to get together and discuss world affairs. And he’s practically the best friend of Bill Ayers. Bill Ayers features Khalidi in some of his books about how to politicize the teaching for students. So actually, the more you look into it, the more you see that this is not just people running into each other. And again, I object to the idea of just simply counting the times people were together in a room. When you fund Bill Ayers education projects, with hundreds of thousands of dollars, when you as Bill Ayers publish Rashid Khalidi’s essay in your book of collected essays, they might have gone on. That’s a lot without meeting once.

HH: So Stanley Kurtz, Rashid Khalidi, very close to Barack Obama, read during the break that Khalidi had a farewell dinner in 2003 that Obama was one of the presenters at, and in those remarks, alluded to the numerous dinners he’d had at the home of the Khalidi’s.

SK: Yes.

HH: It simply defies imagination to think that Khalidi was not a bridge between Ayers, that this is not an operating subgroup of Hyde Park, doesn’t it?

SK: Right. I mean, that’s what it seems like when you look, when you read these acknowledgements back and forth between Khalidi and Ayers of how close they are as friends, and you see that Khalidi had dinners at Obama, it really, to think…and then that Khalidi hosted something to kick off Obama’s Congressional campaign, you’ve got to think that Ayers and Khalidi are both talking about Obama, because they’re so close. And you’ve go to think that…it begins to look like a pretty tight network. You know, you can only show what’s actually in the papers, and what are in the documents as far as the number of meetings and everything else. But it sure looks a lot tighter than what we can absolutely see. It looks like a lot more. But it’s hard to show for sure, just like people, I think rightly assume that Barack Obama had to have known a lot more about what Jeremiah Wright was saying all those years than he’s letting on.

ME: Again, these people were drawn to each other because they shared a revolutionary, anti-American ideology — these were not guys who just happened to know each other from the Hyde Park softball league.

Stanley is ever the meticulous scholar — which is why it's so hysterical to read Obamaphiles try to paint him as a right-wing hack. He will go only as far as the hard evidence takes him, so, without speculating on where or when the Ayers/Obama relationship actually began, he deals with what we know for certain, which is that they had enough of a relationship to strike a significant business partnership in 1995.

As readers may recall, I think the relationship traces back years before 1995 — possibly in the Morningside Heights area in the early 80s (when Ayers had just come out of hiding and Obama was at Columbia ... years Obama refuses to discuss), and was almost certainly in place by the late 1980s in Chicago (when Obama and Ayers were both working on education reform and their wives were working at the same law firm). I've laid out my theory (which relies in part on common connections like Khalidi and Edward Said) in this article, called "Why Won't Obama Talk About Columbia?"

2. Will the Obama circle be unbroken?

Among the Hyde Park friends of Barack Obama was former PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi. Khalidi was on the faculty of the University of Chicago, at whose law school Obama was a lecturer. Their children attended the same school. The Khalidis and the Obamas became friends and dinner companions.

As Paul notes below, when Khalidi moved from the University of Chicago to Columbia, Obama attended the dinner honoring Khalidi. Obama saluted Khalidi for "offer[ing] constant reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases." What a guy.

Last night FOX News reported that Khalidi wrote an obituary for Salah Khalaf (also known as Abu Iyad) when he died in 1991. According to the FOX News report, Khalidi praised Khalaf and said he would be "sorely missed by the Palestinian people to whom he devoted his life."

Khalaf held many PLO posts. In Inside the PLO Neil Livingstone and David Halevy report that Khalaf was the PLO's spymaster, the leader of its security and covert apparatus and the principal link to so-called rejection front elements like Abu Nidal. He directly oversaw the PLO's internal security including Force 17, the Special Operations Group and the Intelligence and Security Apparatus.

Khalaf was also the commander in chief of the terrorist Black September organization. Black September was a PLO front group that answered directly to Yasser Arafat. It is of course best known for the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics.

Among its other operations was the 1973 seizure of the Saudi embassy in Khartoum. During the operation the American ambassador to Sudan (Cleo Noel) and his deputy chief of misson (George Curtis Moore) were both brutally murdered on Arafat's orders along with the Belgian diplomat Guy Eid. Khalaf was involved in the planning of the operation and directed the seizure of the embassy. (I tell the story of the operation in "How Arafat got away with murder.")

Before they murdered Noel, Moore and Eid, the Black September terrorists demanded the release of Robert Kennedy's assassin Sirhan Sirhan. Obama's friends Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn were also big fans of Sirhan Sirhan. FOX News reported this week that Ayers and Dohrn dedicated their 1974 book Prairie Fire to "political prisoners" including Sirhan Sirhan.

I wonder if Obama has had a chance to discuss the fans of Sirhan Sirhan within his circle of friends as he has met up with the members of the Kennedy family who are supporting his election for president. Obama would note that he was only six years old when Robert Kennedy was assassinated. Would that cut it? The younger generation of the Kennedy family that lost its father and uncle wasn't much older at the time either.

3. Ayers-Khalidi Quotes [Stanley Kurtz]

Thanks to Andy for posting below about the Obama/Ayers/Khalidi connection, and to Hugh Hewitt for giving me a chance to discuss it. I’m finding that I simply don’t have time to write up all the material I have on Obama’s troubling background prior to the election. So in lieu of the article I would write if I had more time, let me include some material from the acknowledgments of books by Ayers and Khalidi.

In the acknowledgments of Ayers’ 1997 book, A Kind and Just Parent (the book Obama publically endorsed in the Chicago Tribune), he thanks Rashid Khalidi’s wife, Mona Khalidi, calling her a "co-parent:"

Thanks to friends and family who provided models and standards and shared struggles of parenting:...Mona Khalidi, sister, friend, and co-parent today....

Thanks to...Mona Khalidi...for careful critical comments.

And in the acknowledgments of his 2004 book, Resurrecting Empire, Khalidi begins like this:

There are many people without whose support and assistance I could not have written this book or written it the way that it was written. First, chronologically and in other ways, comes Bill Ayers. He persuaded me a little over a year ago that I should write this book, and he put me in touch with my editor, Helene Atwan, who has done all that I imagined a good editor could do and more. Bill was particularly generous in letting me use his family’s dining room table to do some of the writing for the project....

Bernardine Dohrn continually encouraged me to keep working on the book when I was traveling and at home....

Obviously, the Khalidi and Ayers-Dohrn families were very close, intellectually, personally, and politically. Both Ayers-Dorhn and the Khalidis gave separate campaign events for Obama. Khalidi did exchange ideas with Obama, and it’s hard to believe that Khalidi’s political backing of Obama and exchanges with Obama on the Middle East weren’t thoroughly discussed with Ayers, whom Khalidi would surely have known had a history with Obama at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and on the juvenile crime battle.

Ayers’ 1998 edited book, Teaching for Social Justice, features a contribution by Rashid Khalidi (pp.186-187). Here are some excerpts from Khalidi’s piece:

Much of what I do involves teaching for justice, because the very terms I teach about are subversive of so many categories of public knowledge. This is because teaching about the modern Middle East in the United States means confronting a great deal of resistance, notably where the subject of Palestine is concerned....

Beyond generalized prejudices and often not-so-veiled racism against Arabs, Muslims, and Middle Easterners, the main problem comes when I have to confront firmly held and profoundly wrong ideas, particularly one which are widespread in our culture....

Things get harder when such misunderstandings, which at times are honest and innocent, are combined with the "idiot wind" which blows whenever government policy is discussed, and the lemmings in the media and the inside-the-beltway chorus echo whatever those in power are saying. It is nevertheless vitally important to try to talk sense about such things, whether about the Gulf war back in 1991, or about the "peace process" today, which has so far given us a lot of process and very little peace."

In a widely circulated article, WND first reported Obama served on the board of the Wood's Fund, a liberal Chicago nonprofit, alongside Ayers from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. Tax filings showed Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.

The "Friends of Barack Obama" campaign fund lists a $200 campaign contribution from Ayers April 2, 2001.

The two appeared together as speakers at several public events.

Ayers' wife, Bernadine Dohrn, also has served on panels with Obama. Dohrn, once on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List, was described by J. Edgar Hoover as the "most dangerous woman in America." Ayers and Dohrn raised the son of Weathermen terrorist Kathy Boudin, who was serving a sentence for participating in a 1981 murder and robbery that left four people dead.

As far as we know for certain, it began in about early 1995 when Barack Obama became the chairman of the board of a small education foundation, not too small, because it had ultimately more than $100 million dollars to dispense. But Barack Obama became chairman of the board of something called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation that was essentially founded by Bill Ayers. Now this foundation had two operating bodies, the board, which Obama chaired, and something called the collaborative, which Bill Ayers chaired. But earlier today, I linked to a University of Chicago press release that had Michelle Obama praising a panel that featured Barack Obama and Bill Ayers on juvenile justice, another one of this pattern of contacts. It defies belief to try and pass this off as a casual acquaintance. They’re simply collaborators on many things. And I don’t know, but can you give a number, a minimum number of meetings they had to have been at together, Stanley Kurtz?

SK: Meetings where they absolutely had to have been at together? I can only give you a ballpark right here. I would say that beyond the six board meetings that the Obama campaign is talking about, there had to be at least another half dozen more. But frankly, I think it’s highly likely that it goes way beyond that. I mean, these two were on a small committee of four people charged with hammering out the bylaws that created this foundation. Now can you do that in one meeting, or do you need more meetings? Do you have to have some phone calls and some e-mail going back and forth? How long does it take to create a foundation? I would say that involves a fair amount of contact. So there had to be contact there as you say, and I wrote about this extensively in an article called Barack Obama’s Lost Years. Obama and Ayers were on this panel arranged by Michelle Obama. Really, it was for the purpose of undermining the Illinois juvenile justice bill, which Bernardine Dohrn was also fighting at exactly this period. They were definitely doing…and this was at the same time, by the way, that Barack Obama endorsed, publicly endorsed in the Chicago Tribune, Bill Ayers’ book on juvenile justice. Now if you lived just a few blocks away from someone, and you’ve been on a foundation together, and at least in the first year, you were on the board together, and then you’re on a panel together, when you run into each other, what are you going to be talking about? Here’s something I also haven’t mentioned. Rashid Khalidi and Bill Ayers were practically best friends. People don’t know this, and I’m actually saying this for the first time. I haven’t written about this. They were best friends, and we know that Obama had interactions with Khalidi, that Khalidi had held the coffee that kicked off his Congressional campaign, I believe. And Ayers and Khalidi were extremely close if you look at the acknowledgements in their books.

Zomblog has obtained an extremely rare copy of the first issue of Osawatomie, a newspaper published by the Weather Underground in 1975. The subcommittee investigators found that Saddam used the cash to pay off foreign politicians, businessmen, journalists and possibly even terrorist organizations through an elaborate scheme that allowed friends of the Iraqi dictator to sell oil at inflated prices and pocket large commissions.

Kofi Annan and the United Nations have refused requests from the subcommittee to provide witnesses and detailed information on U.N. audits that could shed light on the corruption.

Saddam used the cash from the program to buy missiles, dual-use military goods and munitions. The three major beneficiaries of the oil-for-food voucher scheme were Russia, China and France, which received 30 percent, 15 percent and 10 percent of the vouchers, respectively,

The United Nations is conducting its own inquiry into the program. Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker heads up this inquiry and is doing everything he can to protect the United Nations. Now why would a Federal Reserve man want to protect the United Nations? After the war, the Iraqi people were suffering, so the United Nations and the people of the world set in place an OIL FOR FOOD program which was meant to provide relief to the suffering Iraqi people.

But the Iraqi people never got the food that was traded for oil. Instead, Saddam Hussein bribed UN officials and paid off Russia, France and China with billions of dollars for weapons.

Why wouldn't the United Nations vote to go to war to remove Saddam Hussein? Because Kofi Annan's friends and colleagues were getting RICH from the oil for food operation! Saddam was bribing them to look the other way.

Why wouldn't France, Russia and China vote to go to war? Because they were making billions of dollars from Hussein.

And Saddam was making the MOST money of anyone.

One final question:

WHERE IS THE $21.3 BILLION DOLLARS THAT SADDAM BLED OFF THE FOOD FOR OIL PROGRAM?
